A family history of Type 2 diabetes is a strong risk factor. Additional strong indicators of risk has been found for people who are overweight or obese, those who have a history of high blood pressure or high lipid levels and anyone with a previous history of cardiovascular disease. If you fall into any one of these groups and particularly if you have a cluster of risk factors it would be well worthwhile reviewing your risks of diabetes with your doctor.
