Even only mildly abnormal levels of thyroid hormones appear to adversely affect pregnancy outcomes. Most clinical studies show lower miscarriage rates in treated patients. For patients with subclinical hypothyroidism having IVF, the miscarriage rate is decreased by thyroxine treatment. Not all studies however are consistent with the view that patients with subclinical hypothyroidism should be actively treated and further clinical trials are ongoing in this area.
