Harm from taking Calcium may seem unlikely because there are no data linking a diet high in Calcium with any disorder. However, there is evidence that Calcium supplements can damage the gastrointestinal tract leading to higher hospital admissions. There is also evidence that Calcium supplements can precipitate renal stones and therefore kidney disease. The most recent controversy concerns whether taking Calcium supplements causes an increase in heart disease.
