The only real evidenced based information known about vitamin D and diabetes at the present time is a clear association between low blood levels and higher rates of Type 2 diabetes.

This knowledge has triggered a number of other studies which are currently examining a role for vitamin D supplementation in the prevention and treatment of diabetes.

However, these studies have so far yielded disappointing results in that no particular benefits have been characterised. The studies are ongoing
