Studies on Vegetarian Diets and Health.

Most vegetarian diets are high in fruit and vegetables, high in seeds and nuts, and high in certain types of unsaturated fats. Results of long-term studies are now emerging to show definite benefits to health.

The Adventist Health Study is one of the most advanced nutritional studies on the subject of the vegetarian diet and health. This long-standing research study based on categorising food groups and food patterns has shown favourable health benefits of vegetarianism. This is particularly with respect to issues of weight management, diabetes management, coronary heart disease incidence and cancer rates.

A second study from Europe is the EPIC study. This large scale investigation into health and diet across Europe has several different lines of enquiry, the one in Oxford UK has data relating to vegetarian diets.
